Ramaphosa says US vote outcome could bring new relations

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa says the outcome of the US midterm elections could usher in a new era in international relations. His comments come after the Trump administration moved to end South Africa’s duty-free access to the US market under the African Growth and Opportunity Act (Agoa). The programme provides preferential access for eligible African exports to the American market. Its removal could expose South African businesses to higher tariffs and affect export earnings and jobs.
