It’s Shark Mayhem in KZN - KZN REPORT (5 NOV '26)

The KZN coastline continues to produce plenty of action, but it's the sharks and rays stealing the show right now. Reports from Durban to the north coast show increasing numbers of ragged-tooth sharks, sand sharks, grey sharks, spinner sharks, diamond rays and honeycomb rays, giving anglers some serious drag-screaming battles as summer species begin to arrive.
On the edible front, garrick remain the standout target, with quality fish still being landed along much of the coast. Kob, grunter, stumpnose, pompano, blacktail and bronze bream are also featuring in catches, while Durban Bay continues to produce excellent grunter, kob and kingfish action.
Offshore, warmer water temperatures are bringing encouraging signs of the upcoming gamefish season. Anglers are finding yellowfin tuna, dorado, snoek, geelbek, daga salmon, amberjack and yellowtail. Every weather window is producing quality fish, and the outlook remains highly positive heading into summer.
In freshwater, trout fishing remains best in the Midlands stillwaters, while yellowfish continue to provide good action in clear-water systems. Bass fishing has slowed slightly at Midmar and Albert Falls, but Jozini Dam is still producing exciting tigerfish action.
For now, though, there's one clear talking point along the KZN coast: the sharks are back in force, and the summer season is officially starting to come alive.
