: The Strategy of Faith and Saving Grace: A Character Study of Joshua
In this episode with Rocky Stevenson Pastor of Benoni Bible Church, we examine Joshua 2 through a character study of Joshua and the remarkable conversion of Rahab. Rather than treating Joshua as a mere moralistic blueprint for behaviour modification, this study highlights his practical wisdom, disciplined leadership, and faith-filled response as he sends spies into Jericho. We explore how true biblical faith partners with sound planning and how God sovereignly weaves human strategy with divine providence.
The text centres on Joshua | 2:1-24, focusing particularly on Rahab’s dramatic confession of faith in Yahweh. Despite her background as a marginalized Canaanite outsider, Rahab recognized that Yahweh is God in the heavens above and on the earth beneath. Her rescue through the scarlet cord serves as a stunning picture of grace breaking into the darkest corners of a broken world, ultimately placing her in the genealogical line of our Savior.
Ultimately, this passage points us away from earthly leadership and toward the Greater Joshua, Jesus Christ. Just as Joshua sent spies into a doomed city to secure a remnant, Christ entered our hostile world to rescue outcasts, conquer sin, and offer unmerited salvation to all who repent and believe.
Take a moment today to reflect on God's pursuing grace. Drop your weapons of rebellion, trust in the finished work of Christ, and take shelter in the only Savior who can deliver you from judgment.
