: The Divine Authority and Power of the Servant-King: Mark 1–8 Expository Overview
The Gospel of Mark presents a fast-paced, action-packed revelation of Jesus Christ as the suffering Servant-King. In this opening session of our two-part Mark overview for Technical Thursday with Rocky Stevenson Pastor of Benoni Bible Church, we explore the literary architecture and theological depth of Mark 1:1 through 8:26. Mark emphasizes Christ's absolute divine authority established through miraculous healings, power over nature, and supernatural victory over demonic forces.
Our exposition traces the rapid Galilean ministry, beginning with John the Baptist's herald and Christ's baptism in Mark 1:9–11. We unpack Mark’s defining structural keyword—euthys ("immediately")—and examine the technical paradox known as the Messianic Secret, where Jesus commands demons and crowds to remain silent to protect His mission to the cross. From His authority over the Sabbath in Mark 2:28 to the calming of the storm in Mark 4:39 and the two-stage healing in Mark 8:22–26, Mark challenges us with one central question: "Who then is this?" We invite you to listen to this structured expository overview and submit your heart to the supreme authority of King Jesus.
