Following Monday's announcement by drug maker Pfizer that early analysis of its COVID-19 vaccine trial show 90% effectiveness in preventing the virus. South Africa's leading epidemiologist Professor Salim Abdool Karim and virologist Prof Tulio de Oliveira joined Darren, Keri and Sky to unpack this. According to Prof Karim, with over 200 vaccines being tested, a breakthrough with the Pfizer vaccine trial is great even though he highlights that it is important to note that the results are preliminary.
