Banks cannot be allowed to retrench people if they are still making profits - COSATU

In this edition of Business Day Spotlight, our focus is on the banking strike and economic plans for SA set out controversially by national treasury.

Our host Mudiwa Gavaza is joined by Matthew Parks, the parliamentary co-ordinator for the Congress of SA Trade Unions (Cosatu)
Cosatu had a strike planned for early October to protest the retrenchments in the banking sector but Parks explains that this has been held back by a court ruling.

Parks says the banks cannot be allowed to retrench people if they are still making profits, even though workers are being let go because of changes in technology.

The second half of the discussion focuses on economic plans for the country that were recently set out controversially by the ministry of finance.
Listen in to hear the full discussion and thoughts around these and other questions.

Business Day Spotlight is a MultimediaLIVE Production.
