Ramaphosa emphasises the importance of education

Deputy President, Cyril Ramaphosa emphasised the importance of education at a ceremony at the Phehellang Secondary School in Parys, ahead of the opening of schools for the 2017 academic year today.

Ramaphosa was joined by Basic Education Minister, Angie Moshegka. The occasion was held to congratulate Free State Education MEC, Tate Makgoe, for the province’s performance in the 2016 matric exams. The Free State achieved the highest matric pass rate in the country - 88.2 percent - in 2016, an improvement of 6.6 percent compared to the previous year.

Ramaphosa addressed learners gathered at the school’s hall.

The 2016 matric results were released last week, with the national pass rate of 72.5% up by 1.8% compared to the previous year’s results.
