A high level delegation of the Northern Cape provincial government will meet with Eskom after five municipalities in the province had their electricity disconnected today.

The power utility announced that it had cut the power supply to the Magareng, Thembelihle, Ubuntu, Dikgatlong and Renosterberg municipalities. These include the towns of Warrenton, Hopetown, Victoria West, Barkly West and Petrusville. Power will be cut off between 07:00 and 10:00 and from 18:00 to 20:00 starting from today. The municipalities owe Eskom more than R113 million combined.

Spokesperson for the Northern Cape department of Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs, Xhanti Teki, says they hope that the meeting will take place soon.
