Economist Freddie Mitchell says the effect of falling international oil prices on South Africans will only become clear once the department of energy announces the new price of oil and petrol.

Mitchell’s comment comes after Brent crude oil fell to below $28 a barrel today for the first time since 2003.

He says, however, that the depreciation of the rand will have an impact on the price of petrol.
