Fresh and Thato spoke to Senior Journalist at The Citizen, Faizel Patel on their story of concern from residents of Slovoville in Roodepoort on the effects of living next to an environmental hazard caused by a mine. This after a mining company ignored a deadline to make its mine waste safe. According to a report in The Citizen, the tailings near their homes contain lead, zinc and arsenic. The Department of Minerals and Petroleum Resources gave the mine owner 60 working days to submit a rehabilitation plan, and that deadline has passed.
