HENDRIK MARAIS: THE SOUTH AFRICAN AUTHOR REDEFINING THE CARNIVORE LIFESTYLE
Hendrik Marais is a South African entrepreneur, sports enthusiast and former practising criminal defence attorney who has turned his personal health journey into a platform that has reached tens of thousands of people. In 2017, he founded the Keto Lifestyle® brand after using ketogenic eating, intermittent fasting and practical lifestyle habits as part of his own weight-loss journey. He went on to publish four successful books and build his work around helping people navigate weight loss, nutrition and their relationship with food.
Now, Marais has expanded his work with Living the Ultimate Carnivore Lifestyle: A South African Guide & Cookbook, published by Penguin Random House South Africa in 2026. Drawing on years of coaching, research and personal experimentation, he explores strict carnivore, relaxed carnivore and ketovore approaches, while offering more than 80 recipes, meal plans and shopping lists. His approach combines science, psychology and lived experience, with a focus on making carnivore and ketogenic eating practical and sustainable for everyday life.
