South Africa has always had stories, stories of
monsters, spirits, legends, ancestors and things that go
bump in the night. But what happens when you take those
stories, mix them with anime-inspired art and put them into
a web-toon? Well, you get something that feels familiar, but
completely different.
Ollie, better known by his pen name That Guy Dmtpa, is a
Durban-based artist who has spent about 18 years drawing
and is now bringing his own stories to life through his web-
toons Demonic Brotherhood and Monstas. His work draws
inspiration from Japanese animation while being driven by
South African mythology, proving that our stories can live in
completely different worlds and mediums.
