Insurance is becoming a central part of financial planning for young South
Africans as they begin to acquire assets, start businesses, and take on family
responsibilities. Unlike previous generations who often delayed insurance until
later in life, today’s youth are engaging with policies earlier, driven by digital
accessibility, rising financial awareness, and the need to protect themselves
against risks in an uncertain economy.
Car insurance is one of the most common entry points. With a significant
share of vehicle finance deals now taken up by under-35s, insuring cars has
become a necessity rather than a luxury. Similarly, as more young people enter
the housing market, home and property insurance is gaining traction. Beyond
personal assets, the rise of entrepreneurship among youth has created
