Legacy Nation has launched the MenPowered Campaign, an initiative aimed at strengthening families by equipping boys and men with mentorship, leadership skills and practical tools to break cycles of violence and dysfunction. The campaign comes against the backdrop of South Africa’s ongoing gender-based violence crisis and the high number of children growing up without their biological fathers in the home.
According to Legacy Nation, South Africa recorded more than 40,598 rape cases during the 2025/26 reporting year, while more than 12,590 sexual offences linked to gender-based violence were reported in a single quarter. The organisation says these figures highlight the need for positive male role models and programmes that encourage responsible fatherhood and healthy masculinity.
A key component of the campaign is advocacy for the Responsible Parenthood Bill, which Legacy Nation says would strengthen family protections, address paternity fraud and seek formal recognition of Men’s Day in South Africa. The campaign also includes mentorship programmes, community conversations, leadership summits and stereotype-challenging initiatives.
