The Democratic Alliance is set to launch its Local Government Election Manifesto in Johannesburg on Saturday, 8 August. The party says the manifesto will outline its vision for improving municipal governance and delivering reliable basic services to communities across South Africa.
According to the DA, the manifesto will focus on restoring clean, safe and well-maintained communities by addressing challenges such as service delivery failures, unreliable electricity supply, and ongoing water shortages. The party argues that functioning municipalities are essential for improving public safety, supporting economic growth, attracting investment, and creating jobs.
The DA says access to reliable electricity should not be a luxury, but the foundation for safer neighbourhoods, thriving businesses, and employment opportunities. It also maintains that access to clean, running water is a basic right and has pledged to outline its plans to improve water infrastructure and ensure more reliable service delivery.
The manifesto launch forms part of the party’s campaign ahead of the upcoming local government elections, where it is expected to present its proposals for strengthening municipalities, improving governance, and enhancing accountability in local government.
