The South African National Defence Force has been deployed to Johannesburg's CBD after tensions escalated during Tuesday's anti-illegal immigration protest. While the main march concluded peacefully, a splinter group of more than a thousand protesters remained in the city centre, prompting a major security response. Police and soldiers are patrolling the streets following isolated incidents, including rock-throwing and a shooting that is now under investigation. Phemelo speaks to Gauteng Portfolio Committee on Public Safety chairperson Dr Bandile Masuku about the security operation and concerns over the day's events.
