Drive Moment - Why Do They Need To Know That?

Yesterday, one of you asked … why are you being asked for your matric
certificate when you already have sent the degree? Yoh. Make it make sense.
And it got us thinking…how many questions on forms are actually necessary,
and how many are just there out of habit? This also reminded us of a
conversation that went viral where a professor questioned why we’re still asking people to tick a box for race — why are we still asked what race we are when filling out forms for anything?
So today on Drive, we’re asking you: what are some of the things we’re asked on applications — jobs, banks, whatever — that just don’t make sense anymore or you think are just too much effort to get? What feels outdated, invasive… or just plain nosy? Let’s unpack the questions we’ve normalised… but maybe shouldn’t
have.
