Malachi 4 to Matthew 1: Prophetic Silence and Messiah’s Arrival
In this Technical Thursday session with Rocky Stevenson Pastor of Benoni Bible Church, we explore the crucial bridge between the Old and New Testaments, tracing the movement from the closing prophecy of Malachi to the arrival of Jesus Christ in Matthew’s Gospel. The Old Testament ends with promise, anticipation, and prophetic expectation in Malachi | 4:4–6, pointing forward to the coming messenger who would prepare the way for the Lord.
This episode examines the so-called “400 years of silence,” explaining that God was not absent, but providentially preparing the world for the coming of the Messiah. We consider the significance of Zechariah, whose name means “Yahweh remembers,” and how his prophecy in Luke | 1:67–79 announces the breaking of prophetic silence through the ministry of John the Baptist. We also explore Matthew | 1:1–25, Luke | 1:5–25, Hebrews | 1:1–2, Micah | 5:2, and Matthew | 2:1–18, showing how Jesus Christ fulfills the promises given to Abraham and David as the long-awaited King and Savior.
From Bethlehem to Herod’s violent opposition, this session highlights the unfolding of redemptive history and the faithfulness of God to His covenant promises. Join us as we begin our New Testament journey by seeing how all Scripture ultimately points to Christ.
