Retired Constitutional Court judge Edwin Cameron is sounding the alarm over South Africa’s prison system — warning it’s not just failing to stop crime, it may actually be making it worse.

“Behind Prison Walls” is a new book, co-written by Justice Cameron – which lays out a stark case for reform — arguing that tougher sentences and overcrowded prisons are not delivering safer communities.
