Mr Ron Carter on The Jazz Standard With Brenda Sisane

Ron Carter is not simply one of the most recorded bassists in jazz history; he is a custodian of time, a sculptor of resonance and a musician whose tone is deliberate, weighted and inevitable. From the disciplined corridors of the Eastman School to the restless laboratories of 1960s New York; from orchestral halls to intimate clubs; from the seismic mid-’60s recordings with Miles Davis alongside Herbie Hancock and Tony Williams to leading his own ensembles with structural daring and invention, he has walked behind legends and has stood beside innovators. And in doing so, he has never once surrendered the clarity of his own voice.

We sit with him ahead of the release of Sweet, Sweet Spirit - his collaborative jazz-gospel project with Choir Master Ricky Dillard.
