Franco van der Merwe - Maynard Kleynhans

The Suzuki Griquas have made their first signing from the 2026 Varsity Cup as they continue to strengthen their squad for the season. Maynard Kleynhans, a forward from the University of the Free State Shimlas, will link up with the Peacock Blues after signing with the Currie Cup champions, and he’s set to be a major asset in the pack.
While the Shimlas are still battling to reach the semi-finals, Kleynhans has been outstanding for the two-time champions. His tireless work rate, physicality in both attack and defence, and impressive burst of speed have made him a standout performer.
Forwards coach Franco van der Merwe told OFM Sport he’s excited to work with Kleynhans and believes the young forward has a bright future ahead.
