The Wits E-Sport Club officially represents the University of the Witwatersrand in the rapidly growing world of competitive gaming and digital sports. E-sports — short for electronic sports — involves organized, multiplayer video game competitions that combine strategy, teamwork, reflexes and communication. While video games have long been a popular pastime, the formalisation of e-sports into clubs, leagues and tournaments reflects a global trend of recognition — from university to international professional arenas.
At Wits, the E-Sport Club provides students with a structured environment to train, compete, and socialise around gaming. The club caters to a variety of popular game titles across genres — including real-time strategy, first-person shooters, sports simulations and multiplayer online battle arenas — depending on member interest and competitive opportunities. Membership is open to students regardless of skill level, from complete beginners curious about gaming culture to experienced competitive players seeking to represent Wits in local and national tournaments.
