In Conversation With Alan Beesley (ActionSA MP)

ActionSA has publicly criticised the Government of National Unity (GNU) over what it calls excessive spending on travel and accommodation by cabinet ministers. According to ActionSA MP Alan Beesley, ministers in the GNU have spent nearly R450 million on official travel in their first 18 months in office — a figure that ActionSA expects to climb above R500 million once all parliamentary responses are finalised.

The party has compiled these figures using its GNU Performance Tracker and answers to parliamentary questions, and argues the spending reflects a “culture of executive indulgence” during a time of economic hardship, with high unemployment and strained public services.
