DAY 6
INHERITORS IN AND OF CHRIST
11 In Him we have obtained an inheritance – Ephesians 1:11 (NIV)
What a glorious truth, that you have an inheritance which is rich beyond compare! It is Christ Himself, as He already promised to Abram in Genesis 15:1, when He said that He was Abram’s ‘very great reward’.
One of our biggest challenges in this epoch is avarice, discontentment, and disillusionment.
Why?
Because we often set our hearts, our affections, our hopes and dreams on the wrong places, and that hope deferred, makes the heart sick (Prov 13:12).
But when we look to Christ, and Him alone, as our exceedingly great reward, and inheritance, delighting ourselves in Him, as our chief pleasure (Ps 37:4), we can never be disappointed.
You have an inheritance in the One who owns all the gold and silver (Haggai 2:8), how could He ever not be enough?
Yet our experience sometimes may differ when we look at our bank accounts, doesn’t it? We need to honestly ask ourselves though whether the unlimited, eternal, unchanging God, can be compared with the limited, temporary, and dynamic nature of our monetary system?
During a recent meditation on God’s unlimited provision, and the resources under my stewardship, I felt the distinct impression in my spirit, as if He was asking me, ‘My son, do you want to live capped, or uncapped’?
Reflection Prompts
• Where have you perhaps misplaced your hope lately (finances, people, achievements)? How has that felt?
• Sit quietly and ask: “Jesus, show me how You are my exceeding great reward today.”
• Write down one way you can delight yourself in the Lord this week instead of lesser things.
Prayer:
Thank you, Father, for an uncapped, unlimited rich inheritance in You, as my exceeding abundant reward! Thank you that you have provided Yourself, and that you are more than able, to richly provide even more (Phil 4:19), seeing that you have given us everything that pertains to life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3).
