South Africa’s Jayden Schaper produced a moment of rare composure and class under the fiercest pressure to secure his maiden DP World Tour title, edging out Shaun Norris with an eagle in a dramatic playoff at the Alfred Dunhill Championship at Royal Johannesburg on Sunday.
The victory capped a compelling final day on the East Course, where Norris had earlier set the benchmark with a superb closing round of 62 to reach 16-under-par. Schaper, undeterred, methodically reeled him in with a polished 67, highlighted by three birdies in his final five holes, including a deft chip-in at the 16th, to force a sudden-death playoff.
Following his sensational win, the youngster said as player you question your ability to win right up until the very end.
