IN CONVERSATION WITH BOKANG MONTJANE-TSHABALALA

African Beauty International, the official licensee of Miss Universe South Africa, has announced the appointment of Bokang Montjane-Tshabalala as the new National Director of Miss Universe South Africa.
A celebrated figure in the pageant world, Montjane-Tshabalala is a former Miss South Africa 2010 who represented the country at Miss World, Miss Universe, Miss Earth, and Miss International — making her the only South African to compete in all four of the world’s major beauty pageants.
Over the past decade, she has evolved from beauty queen to businesswoman, philanthropist, and advocate for social change, leading initiatives focused on education, anti-gender-based violence, and community development through her foundation and various empowerment programmes.
Under her leadership, Miss Universe South Africa enters a new era of empowerment, authenticity, and purpose-driven impact. Through her company, African Beauty International, Montjane-Tshabalala has already elevated platforms such as Miss Supranational South Africa, while continuing to champion causes related to autism awareness, education, and women’s leadership.
“My vision as National Director is to grow Miss Universe South Africa into a platform that not only shines on the international stage but also creates tangible impact within our communities,” said Montjane-Tshabalala. “We want to discover and nurture women who are passionate about leadership and service — women who embody the full beauty and diversity of South Africa.”
The new Miss Universe South Africa era will focus on inclusivity, empowerment, and transformation, extending beyond traditional pageantry to drive meaningful change and amplify South African excellence on the global stage.
“Pageantry, when rooted in purpose, becomes a catalyst for transformation,” she added. “I want every young woman who steps onto that stage to feel seen, celebrated, and inspired to use her voice for change.”
African Beauty International continues to position itself as a hub for talent, purpose, and global opportunity, bridging the worlds of beauty, business, and social impact. The organisation looks forward to this inspiring new chapter under Montjane-Tshabalala’s direction as it prepares to send South Africa’s next representative to the Miss Universe 2025 competition in Thailand this November.
