Under the spotlight with Anderson Carvalho: Dance Intersect 2025 at Artscape

Meet Anderson Carvalho from Dance & Choreography (ACDC) is an independent, emerging and creation-based contemporary dance foundation from the Netherlands, founded by the Brazilian-Dutch choreographer Anderson Carvalho. The foundation is dedicated to artistic creation, research, socio-artistic empowerment, collaboration, innovation and cultural understanding internationally through dance. Their aim is to offer unique experiences in dance that inspire an open and safe space for co-creation, questioning and dialogue.
 
Carvalho began his studies in dance at a social dance project situated in the Favelas (townships) of Fortaleza, Brazil. He furthered his studies for two years at the University of Cape Town, South Africa. He holds a Master degree in Arts, Choreography, a joint-degree by Codarts University of Arts and Fontys University in the Netherlands.
 
Anderson has been actively involved in the world of social dance projects in Cape Town in the past as a volunteer Choreographer for Dance For All from 2013 till 2022 and has performed with Dance For All on the main stage of the Baxter Dance Festival on several occasions.
 
Anderson Carvalho was the Jury Chairman at the Korea International Contemporary Dance Competition 2020 and used to be the choreographer and artistic director for the Corpo Mudança Dance Company in Fortaleza, Brazil.

Produced by South Africa’s own Elvis Sibeko, Dance Intersect 2025 is an initiative by internationally acclaimed choreographer Anderson Carvalho, the Netherlands-based founder of Anderson Carvalho Dance and Choreography (ACDC), and transcends borders to unite audiences and artists alike through the universal language of dance.

Cape Town is gearing up to pulse to the rhythm of a global dance dialogue as  ACDC Dance Intersect 2025  takes centre stage in early October. A cross-cultural celebration of classical and contemporary ballet, this landmark event brings together international and South African dance companies for an unforgettable series of performances from 2 – 4 October at Artscape Theatre.
