When traffic lights were off, and traffic would drag slowly, this opened an opportunity for vagrants to assist in directing the traffic, with grateful citizens then offering tips thereafter. It has evolved into a more concerning pattern, with traffic lights reportedly being disabled and vandalized on purpose, to keep the operation going. On Friday, Glen shared his encounter with a drunk, unauthorized pointsman in JHB north last week, who caused chaos at a Johannesburg intersection, so we reached out to the Johannesburg Metro Police to understand the matter further.
