Make It Make Sense With Ayanda Nyathi - Understanding RDP and Social Housing Backlogs In SA

Loading player...
Housing is a matter of basic need and dignity for all citizens. South Africa's RDP and social housing sector is facing systemic struggles, which include     Rising construction costs,  slow release of land       insufficient grant funding, and corruption in administration. These and other issues are compromising the sector's ability to deliver new units at the pace and scale needed. Where RDP housing is concerned, backlogs and delays still cripple the rate at which long awaiting citizens can finally claim and inhabit these houses. A huge concern has also been "Unfair Allocations", corruption where people who do not meet the criteria are allocated housing before them. Mpho Raboeane, Executive Director of Ndifuna Ukwazi, helps us understand what the RDP projects are, and what to do if after years you are still not receiving access and ownership.
