At least 40% of the population of the Western Cape and Gauteng will not have enough food by 2025. This is according to research commissioned by the Shoprite Group towards the end of 2023. It found that Limpopo will suffer the worst food insecurity. It's now urging people to reduce food waste. Mpho Mashita and Complexion talk to Professor Julian May, the Director of the DSI-NRF Centre of Excellence in Food Security about the future of food security in South Africa and what communities can do to alleviate poverty around them.
