Many South Africans are enjoying a public holiday today – as the country remembers the almost 20 000 women who marched to the Union Buildings in protest of the oppressive Pass Laws exactly 66 years ago..

The brazen multi-racial march to the seat of the apartheid government was lead by Lilian Ngoyi, Sophie DeBruyn, Rahima Moosa and Helen Joseph.

in the 66 years that have followed , many other women have emerged as pioneers, trailblazers and rolemodels…

So as we mark Women’s Day, we thought it appropriate to also celebrate phenomenal women in the arts over the decades..
