Dit het onlangs by wyse van ’n Ipsos-peiling aan die lig gekom dat ’n beduidende deel van sigaretverkopers in die Vrystaat, asook Gauteng en die Wes-Kaap, openlik onwettige sigarette verkoop.
Die studie het verder getoon dat winkels al meer die sluikhandel betree waar pakkies sigarette vir tot so min as R6 per pakkie van 20 verkoop word. Die tabakbedryf wil egter hê dat sigarette in Suid-Afrika vir minstens R28 per pakkie verkoop. Verder blyk dit dat ’n styging in aksynsbelasting hierdie prysoorlog tot gevolg gehad het.
